The Motion Sensing Telegraph

The Motion Sensing Telegraph

The Motion Sensing Telegraph is an actual working device from the early 1900’s located at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural site in Buffalo, NY. Boston Productions created additional circuitry to allow the telegraph to be motion sensing and re-play actual messages that President Theodore Roosevelt received during the first few months of his inauguration. This device is used by docents on a guided tour in order to convince visitors that an actual telegraph is magically arriving as they enter the room where it is located.

The electronics for the telegraph are based on the popular Arduino project board in conjunction with a custom magnetic coil driver shield developed by Boston Productions. The electronics are hidden from view and are easily powered from an external wall plug.
