Explore Hershey is a multi-screen, multi-user interface, content-rich approach to discovering the history and key spots in the town of Hershey, PA. Explore Hershey is comprised of four user stations positioned around an interactive map of the town of Hershey. Four simultaneous users can interface with the map in order to further investigate key buildings such as the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory. When a visitor investigates a building, they are able to navigate through actual 3D panoramas of that building and bring up historic blueprints, photos, videos, and audio in order to get a true understanding of the town of Hershey. Each of the four user stations also has an associated projection screen that visitors are able to display images and video onto in order to show friends, family, and classmates what media they are looking at.
Explore Hershey can also go into a five screen “Show Stopper” video mode on a docents command or on a timed schedule. When the exhibit is put into video mode, the interactive portion fades to black and visitors are presented with an indication of how long until the current running video completes. The current Explore Hershey “Show Stopper” videos are “Explore Transportation”, “Explore Education”, “Recreation”, and “Working in Hershey”.
